Flores Destination
Travel in Flores is cheaper. That is the main point that Travelers must keep in their mind. Most Travelers only know about Bali and don’t know well about Flores. The reason is the problems to reach FLORES in the past, but last 5 years, FLORES has good transportation and infrastructure to support Tourism and Travel.

Flores is now easy to find and visit by Plain, Boat (Ship) and BUS. Because of Archipelago Island, Ship is very popular between the three kinds of transportation. Air transportation has lower frequency schedule than ship.

Ship/Boat Transportation

Any district in Southeast (NUSA TENGGARA TIMUR) has their own harbor so there is no problem if you want to visit any district by ship or to reach others islands or district using ship. There are PELNI Transportations with normal frequency with any harbor in Southeast Island (NUSA TENGGARA TIMUR). Popular Destination is Kupang (the capital of NUSA TENGGARA TIMUR), East Flores (Larantuka), Maumere, Ende and Manggarai (located in Flores). If you want to reach others island in NUSA TENGGARA TIMUR, FERRY (Official Transportation), Private and Rental Boat is available there.

Air Transportation

In Nusa Tenggara Timur; there are some airports that support with Big Planes. In Flores, you can reach it via WAIOTI in MAUMERE and ENDE, in TIMOR Island, KUPANG airport is the biggest from others in NTT.

Land Transportation

I don’t recommend Land transportation to reach NTT because of the road track, taken longer time, and tired otherwise if you want to see any place in there and have many times in FLORES, you might choose land transportation. I don’t recommend bus transportation if you bring many things and packages, for elder travelers and babies.

Travel and vacation in Flores is the best decision for people who looking for Natural environment, far from city, far from the crazy sound in the city. Flores provides amazing eyesight, highest culture, fresh air and blues sea. All of those are still natural till now.

Bali is modern city now although Bali is main target for travelers. So I recommend Flores is good choice if you want seek natural and silent place, far from city.

To highlight about Flores, I start from the culture and language. Flores has different language for each district and the same case with its culture. There are many mountain, volcano, valley to spread each district. The language is very different to understand for others region (district), so all communication in Flores using National Language (Indonesian National Language).

Because of Flores is far from City and Industry; any transportation, infrastructure are not established well, that is why Flores is not so popular with the neighbor island BALI, but unlike Bali, Flores is multidimensional tradition, language, panorama, geographical place.

From west Flores, we see KOMODO the last dragon. To the east we will find Bajawa; the highland city in the valley. General temperature is cold because of highland land and very good for travelers to enjoy fresh and cold air and natural panorama. To the east again, in the middle of Flores we arrive in Kelimutu Lake, located in Kelimutu Mountain. The lake is in the top of the mountain, exactly on the Caldron (mouth of the mountain). Kelimutu charms anybody with the unique lake; there lake with differed by color. There are three colors, Red Green and Blue. Kelimutu also located in the highland so cold and fresh air also available in Middle Flores.

To the East we arrived in East Flores; that has 2 amazing place that travelers didn’t miss it while there were there. First is Catholic Tradition (adopted by Portuguese) when Easter comes. East Flores is also known as Holy Mary City. In the Holy Friday, thousand Christian (mostly came from outsiders) followed the tradition, to remember the death of Jesus. So in the Holy Friday night, there are thousands candle burned and to shine the city.

Second is the Whale hunting; this is not the modern hunting using the modern boat and bla bla bla. This is the tradition of local place and came from their old generation. Lamalera is the place where most of their people are fisher specially Whale Hunter. If you decide to see closer and take some pictures about whale hunting tradition, you might contact me. Why me?
