Gunung Rinjani was designated National Park by Ministry of Forestry
on May 23, 1997 covering area of 41,330 hectares. National Park, Gunung
Rinjani National Park area is lied over 3 districts of Lombok Island,
West Lombok, East Lombok and Central Lombok. Gunung Rinjani is
Indonesia’s second highest peak (3,726m). For the people of Lombok,
Sasak (adat Wettu Telu) and Balinese alike, the volcano is revered as
sacred place and the abode of gods. Within the spectacular crater, the
Segara Anak Lake is the destination of many pilgrims who place
offerings in the water and bathe away disease in the nearby hot
springs. In the middle of Segara Anak Lake gently standing an active
volcano called Gunung Baru Jari = (new formed mount) last erupting 1994.
How to reach Gunung Rinjani:
There are two options starting point base to reach Gunung Rinjani:
• Senaru (601m) is a village, located at slopes of Mount Rinjani
stretches up a hillside spur along a winding road above Bayan. It is a
scenic 2.5 hours drive from Mataram.
• Sembalun Lawang (1,156m) is a place belongs to East Lombok District
on the foot of Mt. Rinjani and very picturesque also a promise of
spectacular scenery, known as best way to reach peak of Mount Rinjani.
It takes 3, 5 hours drive from Mataram
Walking Hours & Trails Condition:
SENARU – SEGARA ANAK LAKE – PEAK
• Senarau – Mondokan Lolak (2,000m) = 4 Hrs: Gentle walk
• Mondokan Lolak – Pelawangan Senaru (2,641M) = 2 Hrs: Hard climb
• Pelawangan Senaru – Lake (2,000m) = 2 Hrs: Extreme Steepy & rocky trails – going down.
• Lake – Pelawangan Sembalun (2,639m) = 3 Hrs: Extreme steepy & rocky trails
• Pelawangan Sembalun – Peak (3,726) = 3 Hrs: rocky & sandy surface – slow walk
SEMBALUN LAWANG – PEAK
• Sembalun Lawang – Pada Balong (1,800m) = 4,5 Hrs: Gentle walk
• Pada Balong – Pelawangan Sembalun (2,639m) = Hard trails
• Pelawangan sembalun – Peak (3,726m) = 3 Hrs: Extreme steepy & rocky trails
What to See:
• Sendang Gila waterfall in Senaru, Traditional Village (Senaru and
Sembalun), Lake Segara Anak, Mount Baru Jari (new formed mount) and Hot
spring.
• Wildlife: Monkey (Long-tailed macaques, Silver Leaf and black monkey), Koau Kiau, White Cockatoo, Eagle, Elk etc
• Trees: Cemara Trees, Aloe Trees, Eidelweiss, orchid etc.
